Preserving History, Renewing Essence: A Shotgun Restoration

Step into the heart of historic preservation as we unveil the meticulous restoration of a classic New Orleans shotgun property, bearing the scars of termite damage from its original construction in the 1940s. In this project, we not only addressed the structural challenges but also honored the essence of a bygone era, breathing new life into every nook and cranny.

Challenges Faced: Termite Damage from Original Construction: The property, steeped in New Orleans history, bore witness to termite damage accumulated over decades. Our mission was to restore its structural integrity while preserving the character that defined its heritage.

PROJECT CONCEPT
  • Insulation Overhaul: The entirety of the property underwent a comprehensive insulation replacement, ensuring energy efficiency and climate control in line with modern standards.
  • Lapsiding Renewal: Original lapsiding, marred by termite damage, was replaced meticulously. The new siding not only restored the property’s exterior charm but also fortified it against future challenges.
  • New Shed Construction: To complement the historic structure, we added a new shed that seamlessly integrated with the property’s character, providing additional storage space while respecting the shotgun layout.
  • Primed, Trimmed, and Painted: The restoration process included meticulous priming, trimming, and painting, paying homage to the original color palette while introducing a fresh vibrancy that breathed new life into the property.

Preserving Heritage: Every decision made in this restoration project was guided by a deep respect for the property’s historical significance. Our team navigated the delicate balance between modern functionality and the preservation of architectural elements that define the New Orleans shotgun style.

Community Impact: Beyond the property’s boundaries, this project contributes to the preservation of New Orleans’ cultural fabric. It stands not just as a restored residence but as a beacon of commitment to the city’s rich architectural heritage.

Conclusion: This restoration  narrates a story of transformation that goes beyond the physical structure. It encapsulates the delicate dance between restoration and innovation, breathing vitality into a historic New Orleans shotgun property, one that now stands proudly as a harmonious blend of past and present.
